DETROIT, MI -- A poster designed by a Holland student for the upcoming North American International Auto Show in Detroit won its creator a $1,000 scholarship.
The poster contest, "established to foster creativity and a passion for the automotive industry with Michigan students" according Auto Show representatives, drew 707 design entries from students in over 50 schools, but Brittany Bates, a 12th grade student at the Careerline Tech Center in Holland, was the top selection.
Her design, featuring a neon blue Auto Show emblem with a black brick wall in the background, will appear in the official 2016 Auto Show programs.
Bryen Gatt, a Howell High School 10th-grader, won the State Farm Insurance award which also includes a $1,000 scolarship.
In total, 16 awards and $6,300 in scholarships were issued. This is the 28th year of the competition for 10th-, 11th- and 12th-grade students.

More than 40 news cars and trucks are expected to debut at the 2016 Detroit auto show. Press preview days are Jan. 11 and 12, and the show will be open to the public Jan. 16-24.
